Gainesville and Lanier are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Gainesville Red Elephants will be playing at home against the Lanier Longhorns at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Gainesville will be strutting in after a win while Lanier will be coming in after a defeat.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Gainesville and Milton meet (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. Gainesville walked away with a 7-4 victory over Milton.
Adrian Medina was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other pitching news, Daniel Rico tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed over his last five matchups.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Cohen Miller, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Gainesville is 2-1 when Miller posts two or more runs, but 2-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Beckett Brown, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Lanier fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Johns Creek on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Gladiators by a score of 3-2. The Longhorns' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Ethan Curtis spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Lanier saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zach Diaz, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Lanier's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Gainesville, their win bumped their record up to 4-11.
Gainesville skirted past Lanier 6-5 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Does Gainesville have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lanier turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
