The Staley Falcons will challenge the Blue Springs Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Staley will be strutting in after a victory while Blue Springs will be coming in after a defeat.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Staley turned things around against Lee's Summit West on Tuesday. They walked away with a 9-5 win over the Titans. The game was the first time the Falcons have beaten the Titans on their field since October 14, 2017.
Henley VanGorp spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits.
On the hitting side, Staley let Ariana Baker-Laster and Taylor Tessman run wild. Baker-Laster went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple, while Tessman went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Claire Hanchette, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Staley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Blue Springs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Blue Springs South. That's two games in a row now that the Wildcats have lost by just one run.
Blue Springs saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Keileen Burt, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Staley now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Blue Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.
