After a string of four wins, the Don Lugo Conquistadores's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They had to suffer through a rough 74-20 loss at the hands of Chino. Don Lugo has not had much luck with Chino recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Makena Encarnacion and Sarah Magadan certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Encarnacion scored six points along with nine rebounds and four blocks, while Magadan scored three points. Those four blocks set a new season-high mark for her.
Chino's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lyndsey Valverde led the charge by dropping a double-double on 23 points and 11 steals. The game was Valverde's 12th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tess Oldenburg, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Don Lugo's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-4. As for Chino, they pushed their record up to 10-3 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Don Lugo won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Garey at 3:30 p.m. on December 15th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Garey is ranked 481st, while Don Lugo is ranked 480th). Chino will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Montclair at 5:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024.
