McGuffey is 4-0 against Jefferson-Morgan since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The McGuffey Highlanders will be playing at home against the Jefferson-Morgan Rockets at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (McGuffey has three straight wins, Jefferson-Morgan has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Even though Charleroi scored an imposing 60 points on Monday, McGuffey still came out on top. McGuffey snuck past Charleroi with a 65-60 win. Given McGuffey's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 176th, while Charleroi is ranked 447th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alexis Ewig was her usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Libby Mallah, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Jefferson-Morgan was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 49-45 to Avella.
McGuffey's win bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Jefferson-Morgan, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-11.
Everything came up roses for McGuffey against Jefferson-Morgan in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 68-23 victory. With McGuffey ahead 38-16 at the half, the match was all but over already.
