It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Trinity Christian Eagles ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They managed a 58-53 victory over Community Christian. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Trinity Christian as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Despite the defeat, Community Christian saw an underclassman step up: Josiah Marquez dropped a double-double on 21 points and 20 rebounds. Marquez has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times he's played. Jonathan Blackburn was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Trinity Christian's win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-13. As for Community Christian, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Trinity Christian will take on Pantego Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Pantego Christian is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.5 points per game. Community Christian on the road again on Friday and play against Amarillo Collegiate Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Amarillo Collegiate Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1615th, while Community Christian is ranked 559th).
