University City fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Clairemont on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Chieftains by a score of 7-6. The defeat continues a trend for the Centurions in their meetings with the Chieftains: they've now lost six in a row.
Trevor Lee was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Lee was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, AJ Curry was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Ethan Antenore was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Christian has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging four runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mira Mesa. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Chase Togerson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Braeden Casey, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Christian's loss dropped their record down to 12-8. As for University City, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.
