Carmine Bermudez made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (two). He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-1. Valley is 3-1 when Bermudez posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on AJ Calvillo, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 1-for-1. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Giovanni Carmona, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, Fairfield earned a 6-3 victory over Napa on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Grizzlies: they've now won four in a row.
Like Valley, Fairfield also got a great game from a two-way player: Tristen Smith. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Donavan Luu was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.
Fairfield's record now sits at 12-4. As for Valley, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .469. However, it's not like Fairfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
