After a string of three wins, the Shalom Christian Academy Flames's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 59-48 to Goretti. While losing is never fun, Shalom Christian Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 136th in Pennsylvania, while Goretti is ranked 49th in Maryland).
Shalom Christian Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Addison Adams, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Moretti, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Goretti's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Danica Bennett led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bennett has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kilah Dandridge, who scored 12 points along with five assists.
Shalom Christian Academy's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-5. As for Goretti, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.
Shalom Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against New Life Christian at 5:15 p.m. on January 12th. New Life Christian comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 16 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Goretti, they will take on Berlin Brothersvalley at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. Berlin Brothersvalley is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
