The Steele Canyon Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 23 points or more this season. They breezed by Santana on the road to the tune of 55-21. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-6.
Deanna Guerrero was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds. The match was her third in a row with at least ten points. Brianda Benitez was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six assists.
Steele Canyon is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Santana, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-14.
Steele Canyon won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hoover at 7:00 p.m. on January 10th. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Jewel Parker and Benitez. As for Santana, they will head out on the road to face off against West Hills at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. West Hills presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Santana in California (West Hills is ranked 493rd, while Santana is ranked 1271st).
