It wasn't easy but two of Florida's top teams notched playoff victories Friday night to set up a titanic Class 7A regional final next week.
Ranked No. 4 in the MaxPreps Computer Rankings, Lakeland (12-0) edged No. 16 Tampa Bay Tech 37-30. The Dreadnaughts – who had won every game this season by 27 points or more entering Friday – had to recover an onside kick late in the game to prevent things from getting really interesting.
Lakeland advances to face No. 3 Armwood, who knocked off Bloomingdale 20-9.
In Class 8A, No. 15 Apopka ended the season of previously unbeaten No. 10 Bartram Trail 34-13. Apopka moves on to face Seminole in the regional final.
No. 7 Miami Central impressed in the featured matchup in the Class 6A bracket, beating No. 20 Naples 56-23. No. 24 Dillard awaits Central next week.
