Football Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Hammond + How To Watch

Hammond extended their winning streak to four on Thursday, bumping them up to 4-1. They walked away with a 35-28 victory over the Slidell Tigers. That's more bragging rights for the Tornadoes, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Hammond's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zalen Bennett, who rushed for 152 yards and two TDs while picking up 9.5 yards per carry. With that strong performance, Bennett is now averaging an impressive 105.2 rushing yards per game. Reginald Monroe also helped out with an impressive 91 receiving yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Hammond was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 206 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 198 rushing yards in four consecutive contests.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 15 points in total. All came from Ethan Young: he went 5-for-5 kicking field goals for 15 points.

As for Slidell, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-2. They gained 80 more yards on the day, but it was Hammond that made the best use of them.

Slidell's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Wilbert Ricky Williams, who threw for 144 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 112 yards. Ricky Williams is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last three games he's played. Jakwan Jones also helped out as he racked up 151 rushing yards.

Hammond and Slidell will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Tornadoes are set to face off against their familiar foe St. Paul's at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th. Meanwhile, Slidell will challenge rival Fontainebleau at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th.
