It was a good run, but the North Eugene Highlanders unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Thursday. They were the victim of a rough 75-53 loss at the hands of South Medford. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as North Eugene came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while South Medford is ranked 89th).
When it comes to explaining why North Eugene lost, one person who can't be blamed is Caiden Gould. Despite the final result, he scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Those 15 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonas Spencer, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, North Eugene were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
North Eugene's loss dropped their record down to 9-2. As for South Medford, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
North Eugene won't have much time to rest: their next match is against North Medford at 3:30 p.m. on December 29th. North Medford has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 349 points over their last five games. As for South Medford, they will head out on the road to face off against Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Central Catholic will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
