Aliso Niguel got a great performance from Brandon Schaff as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Schaff has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cooper Flemming was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Carson Etnire, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Newport Harbor had just enough and edged out Dana Hills 3-2 on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Sailors have won by just one run.
Tyler Clark looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Newport Harbor's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Perez, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits Perez has posted since back in April of 2024. Wyatt Gahm was another, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Aliso Niguel pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Newport Harbor, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.
Newport Harbor's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Aliso Niguel hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. It's a different story for Newport Harbor, though, as they've only averaged .178. Will they be able to contain Aliso Niguel's hitters?
