Baseball Game Preview: Mission Bay Buccaneers vs. Clairemont Chieftains

The Mission Bay Buccaneers will head out on the road to square off against the Clairemont Chieftains at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

While Mission Bay's win against San Diego wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Buccaneers won by a run and slipped past the Cavers 5-4. The victory continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Cavers: they've now won three in a row.

Mission Bay saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Silber, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave Silber a new career-high.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Clairemont ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out University City 7-6. The win was nothing new for the Chieftains as they're now sitting on seven straight.

Luis Murrieta was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Brendan Weiss, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

Clairemont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive matchups.

Mission Bay pushed their record up to 17-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Clairemont, their record now sits at 14-5.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mission Bay has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Clairemont struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
