Malad is 9-0-1 against Declo since May of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Dragons will host the Hornets at 11:00 a.m. Malad is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12 runs per game this season.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Malad nor Wendell made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Dragons came up short against the Trojans, falling 11-2. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Dragons, who until this game were averaging 3.61 runs allowed.
Malad saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Logan Maroney, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Declo). They put the hurt on Soda Springs with a sharp 18-1 victory on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Makendrie Harris made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Kymbree Koyle was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Amerie Ewell, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and one double.
Declo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .560. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Soda Springs only posted an OBP of .200.
Declo's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-11. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Malad, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Malad has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Declo struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Malad got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March against Declo by a conclusive 14-8 score. Will the Dragons repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
