The Monroe Central Golden Bears will head out on the road to take on the Madison-Grant Argylls at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Monroe Central has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Madison-Grant will arrive with three straight victories.
Northeastern hit Monroe Central with a four-run fifth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Golden Bears came up short against the Knights, falling 12-1. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Golden Bears couldn't push the score so high this time.
Monroe Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Raegan Quattlebaum, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Madison-Grant made easy work of Frankton on Tuesday and carried off a 7-1 win. Considering the Argylls have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Olivia Dunham spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on one hit.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Carley Holliday, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Grace Wood, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Madison-Grant was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Madison-Grant pushed their record up to 13-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Monroe Central, their loss dropped their record down to 1-17.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Monroe Central has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Madison-Grant struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Monroe Central suffered a grim 16-3 defeat to Madison-Grant when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Golden Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
