The Currituck County Knights just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the First Flight Nighthawks at 6:30 p.m. on January 26th. First Flight took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Currituck County, who comes in off a win.
On Thursday, Currituck County earned a 39-30 victory over Albemarle School.
Currituck County found their leader in underclassman Arianna White, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points White has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Banks, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, First Flight came up short against Northeastern on Tuesday and fell 48-41. First Flight has struggled against Northeastern recently, as their game on Tuesday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, First Flight had strong showings from Aubrey Phanton, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds, and Maddy Beatson, who scored 16 points along with five steals. Beatson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played.
Currituck County's win bumped their record up to 10-5. As for First Flight, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-3.
Friday's matchup is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Currituck County have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 38.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like First Flight struggles in that department as they've been averaging 43.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Currituck County strolled past First Flight when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a score of 51-33. Will Currituck County repeat their success, or does First Flight have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
