Two dominant guards in Skylar Adams and Najiha Allen are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Northwood Chargers will head out on the road to face off against the Overhills Jaguars at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Northwood is looking to tack on another W to their ten-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up nine more assists than your opponent, a fact Northwood proved on Tuesday. They really took it to Jordan-Matthews for the full four quarters, racking up a 58-13 victory on the road. With Northwood ahead 34-11 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Northwood's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mikaylah Glover, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Neah Henry, who scored 15 points along with five steals.
Meanwhile, Overhills was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 52-51 to E.E. Smith. While losing is never fun, Overhills can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 358th, while E.E. Smith is ranked 95th).
Despite their defeat, Overhills saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Allen, who scored 19 points, was perhaps the best of all. The contest was Allen's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Eva Mcrae was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Northwood's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Overhills, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Northwood have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 32.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Overhills struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Northwood took their win against Overhills in their previous matchup back in December of 2015 by a conclusive 60-40. With Northwood ahead 36-11 at the half, the game was all but over already.
