Baseball Recap: Rutland Wins Going Away Against Howard

Rutland had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Howard on Thursday. The Rutland Hurricanes blew past the Howard Huskies 15-8. The Hurricanes have beaten the Huskies the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Huskies has come to flipping the script.

Khalil Washington and Hunter Floyd made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Washington struck out six batters over two innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Floyd didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Washington scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Floyd scored two runs while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs Floyd has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Kaelik Marcus was a standout: he scored two runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendarious Gilbert, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Rutland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Rutland's win bumped their record up to 6-0-1. As for Howard, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.
