Baseball Recap: Leadership Public Schools Richmond Drops Highest Score of Season Against Leadership

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Leadership Public Schools Richmond). Everything went their way against Leadership on Wednesday as they made off with a 17-1 win. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Pumas with their most commanding win of the season.

Rene Lopez made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. He has become a key player for Leadership Public Schools Richmond: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 1-4 otherwise. Lopez was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mateo Velazquez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with seven RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high. Valentino Montero also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Leadership Public Schools Richmond always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory got Leadership Public Schools Richmond back to even at 6-6. As for Leadership, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.
