The Portola Tigers will take on the Loyalton Grizzlies at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
15 must be Portola's lucky number: they beat Williams with that score not once but twice on Friday. The Tigers didn't even let the Yellowjackets on the board, marking the Tigers' second-straight 15-0 shutout. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Yellowjackets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Emery Powell was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Portola's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 2-1 (and 5-11 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Ricky Richardson, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Portola always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .542. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Loyalton made sure to put some runs up on the board against Plumas Charter on Friday. The Grizzlies blew past the Warriors 10-3. Considering the Grizzlies have won eight matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Thor Corcoran made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Loyalton let Gus Petterson and Chance Edwards run wild. Petterson went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Edwards went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Edwards a new career-high. Ryland Martinetti was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Loyalton is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Portola, their win bumped their record up to 7-12.
Portola suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Loyalton when the teams last played back in April. Will the Tigers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
