Vista del Lago and Yuba City are an even 4-4 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Eagles will take on the Honkers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Vista del Lago is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They came out on top against El Capitan by a score of 7-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.
Jacoby Jones tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March.
On the hitting side, Tyler Bolyard was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Asher Taylor, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Yuba City had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Wednesday. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Bruins.
Brandon Pelechowicz made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Pelechowicz was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run.
Pelechowicz wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cesar Guizar, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Yuba City pushed their record up to 24-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Vista del Lago, their win bumped their record up to 18-11.
Vista del Lago suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Yuba City in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
