Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in prep basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2023-24 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Darren Harris of
Paul VI (Chantilly) is the 2023-24 Virginia MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 6-foot-6 senior wing led the Panthers to a 33-2 record, Washington Catholic Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles and third consecutive VISAA Division I state championship.
For the season, Harris averaged 17.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.9 steals per contest. He recorded 20 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in a WCAC Tournament title game victory over Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) and tallied 24 points, four rebounds and four assists in the state title game victory over St. Anne's Belfield (Charlottesville, Va.).
