After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pender, the Stanton Mustangs were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They came out on top against Howells-Dodge by a score of 57-47. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Stanton considering their 21-point performance the contest before.
Stanton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Madison McKie led the charge by scoring 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McKie has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Olivia Hupp, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Howells-Dodge lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Peyten Becker, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds. Jordyn Ratzlaff was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Stanton's win bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Howells-Dodge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stanton will square off against the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Winside has now lost 13 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 12. As for Howells-Dodge, they will head out on the road to square off against the Titans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Twin River will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 217th, while the Jaguars are ranked 70th).
