The Maury Commodores's game on Friday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 58-37 margin over Oscar Smith. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-3.
Maury's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Arianna Owens led the charge by scoring 15 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Owens has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Nyla Brown, who scored 12 points.
Despite the loss, Oscar Smith still got an impressive performance from Aaliyah Price, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Price hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for nine straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Destiny Morning, who scored three points along with three steals.
Oscar Smith struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Maury's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Oscar Smith, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.
Maury on the road again on Wednesday and play against Booker T. Washington at 5:45 p.m. on January 17th. Booker T. Washington is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home. Oscar Smith will take on Hickory at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
