After flying high against the Bassett Olympians on Monday, the Workman Lobos came back down to earth. Workman was dealt a 45-13 defeat at the hands of Don Lugo on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Workman can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1198th, while Don Lugo is ranked 459th).
It was another big night for Makena Encarnacion, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds for Don Lugo. Encarnacion has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Magadan, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Workman has been struggling recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season. As for Don Lugo, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Workman won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Montebello at 6:00 p.m. on December 22nd. Don Lugo won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against La Serna at 6:30 p.m. on December 22nd.
