New Kent is 8-2 against Poquoson since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The New Kent Trojans will head out on the road to challenge the Poquoson Islanders at 7:00 p.m. Poquoson took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on New Kent, who comes in off a win.
Last Wednesday, New Kent earned a 52-45 win over Warhill. Given New Kent's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while Warhill is ranked 285th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Poquoson's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their 11th straight defeat. They fell to Bruton 54-48. Poquoson has struggled against Bruton recently, as their contest on Wednesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite their defeat, Poquoson saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Dayne Galacgac, who scored 12 points, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Khaleo Smith, who scored eight points.
New Kent's win bumped their record up to 14-6. As for Poquoson, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-18.
Everything came up roses for New Kent against Poquoson when the teams last played back in January as the team secured a 77-30 victory. With New Kent ahead 44-18 at the half, the match was all but over already.
