Softball Recap: Rome's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

Rome had lost four straight, but after bumping their record up to 5-5 on Wednesday that streak is in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Gordon Central Warriors 16-15. The Wolves' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last four games.

Madyson Thacker made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and six unearned) runs off three hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, Rome let Reese Torimoto and Brooklyn Landsdell run wild. Torimoto got on base in all four of her plate appearances with eight stolen bases and four runs, while Landsdell got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Those eight stolen bases gave Torimoto a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ta'Derrica Austin, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run.

As for Gordon Central, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12. On the bright side, the 15- run effort marked their highest-scoring match to date.

On Gordon Central's side, Kaylynn Thigpen was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Kaylon Gulledge was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Rome wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 17-0 loss against Villa Rica on the 4th. As for Gordon Central, they have also already played their next contest, a 19-0 defeat against Armuchee on the 4th.
