The Firebaugh Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Dos Palos Broncos at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Firebaugh has given up an average of 10.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Fresno Christian hit Firebaugh with a seven-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. Firebaugh came up short against Fresno Christian, falling 15-8.
Meanwhile, Dos Palos got the win against Tranquillity on Tuesday by a conclusive 16-2.
Matt Chavez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Dos Palos is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 9-11-1 otherwise. Chavez was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Dos Palos got a massive performance out of Kevin Larra, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles. The Broncos are undefeated when Larra posts two or more runs, but 8-12-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Chaz Merrell, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Dos Palos always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .778. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Firebaugh's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-20. As for Dos Palos, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-12-1.
Firebaugh might still be hurting after the 9-0 loss they got from Dos Palos in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
