Basketball Game Preview: Rio Hondo Prep Kares vs. Flintridge Prep Wolves

Rio Hondo Prep is on a seven-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Flintridge Prep is on a ten-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Rio Hondo Prep Kares will welcome the Flintridge Prep Wolves at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Rio Hondo Prep is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Mayfield 74-44 on Friday. With the Kares ahead 38-17 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

TARA RILEY was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten boards. Her evening made it 14 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was BRYCE JOHNSON, who went 7 of 10 en route to 19 points.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Flintridge Prep's strategy against Polytechnic on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Flintridge Prep blew Polytechnic out of the water with a 67-38 final score. Given the Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 51st, while the Panthers are ranked 387th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rio Hondo Prep is also on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Flintridge Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 18-1.

Rio Hondo Prep suffered a grim 61-35 defeat to Flintridge Prep in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can Rio Hondo Prep avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
