Softball Recap: Berthoud Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Berthoud, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They came out on top against the Thompson Valley Eagles on Tuesday by a score of 15-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The high-scoring effort was just what the Spartans needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Camryn Olivas and Kiley Brinkman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Olivas pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Brinkman pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Olivas went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, while Brinkman went a perfect 1-for-1 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Brinkman a new career-high.

In other batting news, Berthoud let Chloe Sadar-Holmes and Jessica Jorissen run wild. Sadar-Holmes went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Jorissen went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Jorissen has posted since back in August of 2024. Alana Lukensow also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Berthoud always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .577. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Thompson Valley only posted an OBP of .182.

Berthoud's record is now 5-6. As for Thompson Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.

Looking ahead, Berthoud will challenge Roosevelt at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Roughriders have averaged an impressive 11.8 runs per game this season. As for Thompson Valley, they will square off against Severance at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Silver Knights will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
