Softball Recap: First Presbyterian Day Has No Trouble Against Stratford Academy

First Presbyterian Day put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They blew past the Stratford Academy Eagles 13-0. Considering the Vikings have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Gracyn Fuller made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lyric Jones, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in October of 2024. Addison Arnold was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

First Presbyterian Day kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.

First Presbyterian Day's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Stratford Academy, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-9.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. First Presbyterian Day will take on rival John Milledge Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Vikings 1.7, the Trojans 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Stratford Academy is set to face off against their familiar foe Piedmont Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
