Moses Brown and Portsmouth are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Quakers will head out on the road to square off against the Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Moses Brown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Moses Brown proved they can win big on Friday (they won by ten) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Smithfield 11-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Quakers have posted since May 18, 2024.

The team relied heavily on Will Haggerty, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Menard, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, Portsmouth faced Mt. Hope in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Patriots were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Huskies. The Patriots' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Casey Cord was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Cord was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Emmett Greenwood was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Charlie Cord, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Portsmouth kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
The win (which was Moses Brown's third in a row) raised their record to 4-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Portsmouth, their record now sits at 2-4.
Portsmouth's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Moses Brown hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .409. It's a different story for Portsmouth, though, as they've only averaged .242. Will they be able to contain Moses Brown's hitters?
Moses Brown couldn't quite get it done against Portsmouth in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 7-3. Can the Quakers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
