The Hazelwood East Spartans will venture away from home to face off against the Riverview Gardens Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hazelwood East is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Hazelwood East turned things around against Normandy on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 15-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won three contests by 13 runs or more so far this season.
Aja Wallace made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Wallace was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

In other batting news, Hazelwood East got a massive performance out of Jamarre Thomas, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. With that strong performance, Thomas is now averaging an impressive 1.4 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Turner, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.
Hazelwood East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Normandy only posted a batting average of .231.
Bayless hit Riverview Gardens with a 20-run third inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rams lost 21-6 to the Bronchos. The Rams haven't had much luck with the Bronchos recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Breayra Lampley made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Janye Gibson also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Riverview Gardens' defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Hazelwood East, their record is now 3-7.
Riverview Gardens' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hazelwood East hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .492. It's a different story for Riverview Gardens, though, as they've only averaged .250. Will they be able to contain Hazelwood East's hitters?
Everything went Hazelwood East's way against Riverview Gardens in their previous matchup back in September, as Hazelwood East made off with a 19-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
