Soledad and Monterey are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Aztecs will be playing at home against the Toreadors at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Monterey took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Soledad, who comes in off a win.
On Monday, Soledad made easy work of North Salinas and carried off a 7-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Aztecs.
Ethan Sanchez made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Soledad is 5-1-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-7 otherwise. Sanchez was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Juan Esparza was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Soledad: the team is 2-0-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Victor Bravo, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Soledad lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Monterey unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 11-1 to Palma.
Monterey saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Rose, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Soledad's victory bumped their record up to 7-8-1. As for Monterey, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.
Soledad came out on top in a nail-biter against Monterey when the teams last played back in May of 2025, sneaking past 2-1. Will the Aztecs repeat their success, or do the Toreadors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
