If the Magnolia Sentinels were riding high off their 46-24 takedown of the Santa Ana Valley Falcons last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Magnolia suffered a rough 70-50 loss at the hands of Anaheim on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Magnolia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 547th, while Anaheim is ranked 95th).
Several Sentinels players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Elysia Dellia, who scored 15 points. Dellia continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Teresa Martinez, who scored 15 points.
Anaheim's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Giselle Zambrano led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Zambrano has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Aleah McGregor, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
Magnolia's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 12-6. As for Anaheim, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Magnolia will square off against Western at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Anaheim, they will head out on the road to face off against Century at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Century comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last five games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
