Wonderful College Prep Academy extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 5-13 in the process. They came up short against the Orosi Cardinals, falling 12-0. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 2, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Wonderful College Prep Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Teagan Kent, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
As for Orosi, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-11-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games.
On Orosi's side, Micheal Lopez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Lopez also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Orosi is 2-0-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 8-11 otherwise. Lopez was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Orosi got a massive performance out of Christopher Lopez, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Lopez has become a key player for the Cardinals: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-11-1 otherwise. Matthew Melchor was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Wonderful College Prep Academy will face off against rival Orange Cove at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Orosi is set to take on their familiar foe Summit Charter Collegiate Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
