Basketball Recap: Steele Canyon Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Amira Williams and Aleyah Ibrahim

Steele Canyon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 39-31 loss to the Bishop Amat Lancers.

Despite the defeat, Steele Canyon had strong showings from Aleyah Ibrahim, who posted seven points in addition to 17 boards and four blocks, and Amira Williams, who had six points. Ibrahim has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last nine times she's played.

Even though they lost, Steele Canyon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Bishop Amat's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Arianna Saldivar led the charge by putting up seven points and three steals. Lily Harris was another key player, posting nine points.

Steele Canyon's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Bishop Amat, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Steele Canyon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-43 defeat against Fallbrook on the 6th. Bishop Amat has also already played their next matchup, a 51-37 loss against Schurr on the 7th.
