Jay County and Delta are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Patriots will venture away from home to challenge the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Jay County came out on top against Winchester Community on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run third inning. The Patriots' pitchers stepped up to hand the Falcons a 9-0 shutout. The victory was nothing new for the Patriots as they're now sitting on five straight.
Gavin Byrum and Andrew Schemenaur were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Byrum didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Schemenaur tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At bat, Byrum went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Schemenaur went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Geesaman went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Sommers went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three hits gave Sommers a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Foster, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Delta won against Bellmont on Monday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Eagles didn't even let Daleville on the board, marking the Eagles' second-straight 10-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Broncos: they've now won nine in a row.
Ayden Mitchell tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brady Williams, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Delta is undefeated when Williams posts two or more runs, but 6-9 otherwise. Eli Overholt was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Delta always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Jay County's record is now 14-7. As for Delta, their record now sits at 11-9.
Jay County's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's matchup. The Patriots have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Delta, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Jay County continue to outrun the ball?
Jay County suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Delta in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. Can the Patriots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
