The Oakmont Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Wheatland Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Oakmont has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Friday, Oakmont didn't have quite enough to beat Bear River and fell 5-4.

Brayden Saucedo put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Ryan Holland was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Pennman, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Wheatland gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Center. Considering the Pirates have won five matchups by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Oakmont, Wheatland also got a great game from a two-way player: Cole Rohleder. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Rohleder was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other pitching news, Brodey Stidman looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jordan James, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Barton, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Wheatland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Center only posted an OBP of .350.
Wheatland pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.8 runs over those games. As for Oakmont, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Oakmont has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wheatland struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Oakmont's way against Wheatland in their previous meeting back in March of 2025, as Oakmont made off with a 10-1 victory. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
