Benji Cho was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Lick-Wilmerding: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-6 otherwise.
In other batting news, Kian Perrone was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Lick-Wilmerding's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-2 (and 2-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Nathaniel Emerson, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Lick-Wilmerding was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lincoln, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Washington with a sharp 8-2 victory on Thursday. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Branson Derrington made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Derrington was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one triple.
In other pitching news, Xavier Malizia looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jeremiah Arriola, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicholas Chiu, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Lincoln is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Lick-Wilmerding, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
