The Helix Highlanders won the last time they faced the El Capitan Vaqueros, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Helix secured a 45-39 W over El Capitan.
Helix's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Valerie Marquez, who scored five points along with 14 rebounds and five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for her. Cheyenne McMillan was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds.
Helix has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. As for El Capitan, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-8.
Helix will head out on the road to face off against Grossmont at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Grossmont presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Helix in California (Grossmont is ranked 130th, while Helix is ranked 422nd). As for El Capitan, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Granite Hills at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Granite Hills is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
