The Roosevelt Rough Riders waltzed into their game on Thursday with three straight wins but they left with four. They took down McLane 55-39. Given Roosevelt's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 289th, while the Highlanders are ranked 925th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Roosevelt's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nyleigh Gregory led the charge by scoring 18 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Gregory has been hot recently, having posted 18 or more points the last four times she's played. Nevaeh Reese was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Several Highlanders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mylene Huerta, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Valeria Cerda, who scored ten points.
Roosevelt is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. As for McLane, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-11.
Roosevelt will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the Warriors at 3:30 p.m. Fresno will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak. As for McLane, they will head out on the road to challenge the Patriots at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
