Softball Recap: Bishop Kelley Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Bishop Kelley, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Verdigris Cardinals by a score of 8-4 on Thursday. For the Comets, this counts as revenge for the 10-3 victory the Cardinals walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2017.

Kamdyn Berry was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in August.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Larkin O'Stasik, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Aubri Bunch, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Bishop Kelley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .560. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Bishop Kelley has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Verdigris, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-6.

Coming up, Bishop Kelley will take on Dewey in a tournament on Thursday. The Comets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldoggers have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Verdigris, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Vinita at 5:00 p.m.
