The Chavez Titans scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat McFarland 70-38 on the road. The win was just what Chavez needed coming off of a 62-31 defeat in their prior contest.
Leading Chavez to victory were Hannah Diaz and Chloe Lopez. Diaz almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine assists, while Lopez scored 14 points along with six steals and five rebounds. It was the first time this season that Diaz posted eight or more assists. Alyssa Ramos was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Despite the loss, McFarland had strong showings from Mia Samaniego, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Sonya Valtierra, who scored five points along with three steals. Samaniego is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least ten every time she's taken the court this season.
Chavez has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-9 record this season. As for McFarland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-18.
Chavez will be playing in front of their home fans against Delano at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Delano is coming into the game with five straight defeats on the road, meaning Chavez will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. As for McFarland, they will challenge Shafter at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Shafter will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something McFarland surely won't give up without a fight.
