The King City Mustangs won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Wednesday. They were outmatched by St. Francis at home and fell 69-31. King City has not had much luck with St. Francis recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Despite the defeat, King City had strong showings from Mikayla Mclane, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and two steals, and Malaya Carrillo, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Leading St. Francis to victory were Aaliysah Gomez and Maya Calfee. Gomez dropped a triple-double on 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 steals, while Calfee scored 37 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Calfee has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Raich, who scored seven points along with five steals.
King City has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. As for St. Francis, the victory was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-2.
King City will head out on the road to challenge North Monterey County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. North Monterey County is coming into the game with seven straight wins at home, so King City is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum. St. Francis will take on Gonzales at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
