On Saturday, the Hazen Wildcats faced the Montpelier Solons in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Hazen's rough 68-46 loss to the Solons might stick with them for a while. Hazen's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Montpelier to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carter Bruzzese, who scored 17 points along with six assists and two steals. Bruzzese has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Cody, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Hazen's loss dropped their record down to 12-3. As for Montpelier, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hazen will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against the Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on February 7th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Vermont (North Country Union is ranked 14th, while the Wildcats are ranked tenth). As for Montpelier, they will head out on the road to take on the Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
