Milpitas hasn't had much luck against Leigh recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Milpitas Trojans will look to defend their home field against the Leigh Longhorns at 3:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Milpitas will bounce into Thursday's game after beating Westmont, who they had gone 0-6 against in their six prior meetings. Milpitas came out on top against Westmont by a score of 7-4 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Trojans.
The team relied heavily on Caleb Millan, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Rodriguez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Leigh not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 7, 2024. They put the hurt on Evergreen Valley with a sharp 9-1 victory.
Dylan Christian was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other pitching news, Leigh got a great performance from Cooper Low as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
Back at the plate, Damian Hernandez was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Michael Mogannam, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Leigh always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Evergreen Valley only posted an OBP of .200.
Leigh's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Milpitas, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Milpitas has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Leigh struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
