The Corona Panthers will square off against the St. John Bosco Braves at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Corona comes in on nine and St. John Bosco on 14.
Corona is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Norco get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since April 14th.
The result came thanks to Ethin Bingaman's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Corona saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Murphy, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but St. John Bosco ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Villa Park 4-3. That's two games straight that the Braves have won by just one run.
Gavin Cervantes tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits.
Corona's victory was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 28-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for St. John Bosco, their record now sits at 25-4.
Both Corona and St. John Bosco just can't seem to miss. The Panthers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.9 hits per game. However, it's not like St. John Bosco struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.7 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Corona skirted past St. John Bosco 4-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2018. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Braves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
