The Smethport Hubbers lost against the Otto-Eldred Terrors back in February, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Smethport fell to Otto-Eldred 41-37. Smethport has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Loss or not, Smethport got some senior leadership from Jaidyn Goodman who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds and Elizabeth Hungiville who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Hungiville is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Neff, who scored five points along with six assists.
Even though they lost, Smethport were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Otto-Eldred's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Addie Bell led the charge by scoring ten points along with five rebounds. Those ten points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Rayel Hakes, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Smethport has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season. As for Otto-Eldred, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-4.
Smethport will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Ridgway at 6:00 p.m. on January 10, 2024. Otto-Eldred and Olean will round out the year against one another at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at.
